A Splash of Beauty and Performance at Award Winning Devonshire Spa Conversion

The Spa’s history is an eventful one. In the mid-nineteenth century, the sixth Duke of Devonshire gave his consent to convert his royal stables into a hospital and, after hydrotherapy baths were added in 1913-14, the Royal Devonshire Hospital became a centre for excellence in hydrotherapies until its closure in 2000. Today, the Spa is the latest stage in the University’s award-winning £23m conversion project.

As a training centre for University students, the Spa offers the ultimate in contemporary design and facilities whilst retaining the feel of traditional Roman baths. The Designer Range, which gives specifiers complete freedom in doorset design and offers a wide choice of wood veneer, PVC, paint and metal finishes, was the perfect fit for this environment. Supplied laminate faced in pearl, the doorsets complement the cool calm of the Spa’s interior whilst delivering all the performance requirements of a state-of-the-art building, including fire and smoke control and sound reduction.

Further enhancing a space designed to inspire a sense of luxury and well being, glazed, Chelsea (6-panel), solid timber doors from the Longden range of doorsets were also specified. As one of Leaderflush Shapland's most exclusive brands, Longden uses innovative production techniques that enable traditionally crafted products to acheive performance levels such as 60 minutes fire resistance and 36 RwdB sound reduction.
