ACO StormBrixx wins 2012 British Construction Industry Award

Last night in London RT Hon Michael Fallon, Minister of State for business recognised the best of Britain’s Construction at the BCI Awards.

Winners included The Olympic Delivery Authority, ARUP and Mott MacDonald along with projects such as Kings Cross Station, McLaren [cars] Production Centre (by Foster & Partners) and University of the Arts in London all being recognised for their outstanding contribution to Britain’s built environment.

ACO Water Management has received the Product Design Innovation Award 2012, for StormBrixx its innovative, sustainable stormwater management solution.

The judge’s comments recognised the innovation built into the ACO system “Detailed market analysis and an understanding of customer needs have truly reinvented an existing product type. The product meets the client’s needs and provides a solution that otherwise might have been overlooked”.

The award winning ACO StormBrixx is a unique, patented, plastic geocellular stormwater attenuation and infiltration system, manufactured from recycled polypropylene. It is applicable across all construction environments as a standalone solution or as part of an integrated sustainable drainage (SuDS) scheme.

StormBrixx underwent a rigorous process of assessment by a judging panel of industry experts, before being lauded for its excellence as an innovative and sustainable application. They praised ACO for its understanding of the needs of its customers, met through StormBrixx.

Managing Director at ACO, Richard Hill, praised his team, saying: “StormBrixx is now a key aspect of our SuDS offering; it’s a future focused product that meets a genuine need. I am delighted to congratulate our talented and resourceful product development team”.

Commenting on the significance of the BCIA awards Editorial Director of NCE, Antony Oliver, stated: “Regardless of economic downturns, the judges without question witnessed project delivery performances that could only have been dreamed of in 1988, when these awards began. Whether through use of technology, or through greater attention to planning, people and safety, clients can now expect excellence as the norm".

The BCIA awards are the longest standing, most rigorously judged, and highly prized in the UK construction sector. Now celebrating their 25th year, the awards’ value is reflected in the calibre of the companies and projects recognised for 2012; others included the University of the Arts London Campus, Kings Cross, by BAM Construction; the Olympic Delivery Authority; and the Kings Cross Station redevelopment by Vinci Construction UK.
