AKW Continue Independence at Home Campaign

AKW Continue Independence at Home Campaign

AKW continue to support the desire of many elderly people who wish to remain independent in their own homes by maintaining to campaign and target MP’s and public sector chief executives.

The majority of older people wish to stay in their own homes and live independently for as long as possible, unfortunately it is not always that easy for people to do this.

An accessible, adapted home can significantly help to improve an older or disabled person’s quality of life. Adaptations give independence, help prevent falls and reduce admissions to hospital or care homes. An adaptation can be simply the installation of grab rails or a level access bathroom.

After the successful distribution and positive feedback of ‘The Cost of Living’, AKW have now produced a second booklet to follow up the campaign. ‘Housing & Care in Later Life’ is a mini pamphlet illustrating real life scenarios of people who have been able to remain living independently at home and the benefits it brings to them. Sadly people also encounter many pit falls, which are also demonstrated in the booklet.

Distributed to many significant parties and all newly elected MP’s one hopes to ensure the subject continues to generate a talking point and hopefully help place it at the forefront of influencer’s minds to ensure significant policy changes happen.

The ageing population have the desire to stay at home and AKW are asking for the support and commitment of influential individuals to make it happen, save public expenditure and help reduce the cost of living.
