ASSA ABLOY door closers have been specified within new student residences at a world-renowned university in the Scottish capital.
For many of the students at Heriot Watt Universitys Edinburgh and Borders Campus, the educational experience and standard of living will now be greatly improved, with the completion of 300 new self-catered student residences in advance of the new term in September 2012.
ASSA ABLOY Security Solutions won the contract above its main competitor, providing the popular DC500, as well as hinges, door furniture and modular locks from ASSA.
The door closer, with CAM motion technology and height-adjustable guiderail, meets with the requirements under the Equality Act, specifically BS8300 and Approved Document M, providing security whilst assisting in ease of operation by those students with a disability, allowing accessibility for all.
Patrick Wilson, Associate Architect for RMJM, who worked on the project, said: We knew, having worked with ASSA before, that they could adhere to the rigorous requirements in an education building project, as well as meeting the uncompromising build deadline, when the students return in September.
In sourcing all the hardware from one place, and with the expertise that comes with ASSAs experience, the specification process was simplified.
Allan Thomson, Commercial Manager for ASSA ABLOY Security Solutions, said: Architect RMJM had previously specified ASSA ABLOY door closers, and had been impressed with the streamlined, concealed design. This, as well as our competence in providing complete door solutions was the key to winning this project.
