Beaconsfield Station

Beaconsfield Station

Client: Chiltern Railways
Operator: Vinci Park
Contractor: Buckingham Group Ltd
Type of works: supply and installation of vehicle and pedestrian barriers for additional car parking deck and access ramp.

In 2002, car parking was extended at Beaconsfield Railway Station with a brand new deck over the existing ground level parking. This was so successful that 6 years later, in 2008, Chiltern Railways decided to add a further deck to bring the total capacity up to 509 cars. The original spring-steel safety barriers had been installed by Berry Systems and contractor Buckingham Group had no hesitation in inviting them back.

The barrier requirement included those on the new circular access ramp. This involved 40m of barrier being curved to the precise radius required, including the integral mesh and pedestrian handrail. As the radius varies from section to section, these had to be custom made and discretely marked in production so that they could be installed in the correct sequence. A protected pedestrian walkway was created right down the outside edge of the ramp between the vehicle safety barriers and the perimeter fence.

270m of RB1X 100 x 14mm Spring Steel Buffers and Berry Beam for the perimeter was installed. 62m of RB1 76 x 12mm Spring Steel Buffers and Berry Beam, complete with pedestrian handrail and mesh (including 40m radiussed for circular ramp).
