BowTop panels go with the flow

BowTop panels go with the flow

A recent project completed for Islington Council ticked all the boxes for the Asset Improvement Officer in charge of this regeneration programme to enclose a previously open area so that it could be used safely by residents without being troubled by dog fouling.

John Reynolds of Islington Council explained: “We chose Jacksons Fencing because we wanted to enclose a turfed area to create a dog-free space. We needed a fence that would be manufactured and installed to a high standard and that would not need significant maintenance for years to come. In the past we have found Jacksons to be capable of matching our high specification and able to accommodate variations to the standard fencing that they supply. The ground at Laycock Street Open Space is not level and the raking of the panels was very successful.”

All Jacksons tubular BowTop panels are of a welded pale-through-rail design, which creates a rigid and strong structure. Standard panels are manufactured employing robot-welding for consistency. However the manufacture of non-standard and raking panels, such as those at the Laycock Street Open Space site takes place offline in the Bespoke area if the workshop. The process starts with the accurate measurements taken on site from which detailed drawings of each customised panel are produced by the Jacksons’ drawing office team. Once approved, the components for each panel are cut and shaped before being dry-assembled in specially-designed jigs then welded in place. At this stage the steel is in its uncoated form and when complete, the panels are hot-dip galvanized, as was the case with the Laycock Street site, then powder coated before being installed by one of Jacksons expert installation teams.

Islington Borough Council’s requirement for minimal maintenance and a long service-life was achieved by using Jacksons’ products due to the thoroughness of the design and manufacturing process. All Jacksons steel fencing and gates are hot-dip galvanized to BS EN 1461 as standard to provide full protection inside and out and if specified, polyester powder-coated to BS EN 13438 in any BS or RAL colour at Jacksons own facility.

The durability and integrity of the BowTop panels is further enhanced by the use of concealed, vandal-proof connectors and seamless panel-to-post fixings, with the panel rails scalloped to provide a neat and tight fit to the round posts.

Jacksons are unique in offering a 25 year service-life guarantee on all their steel fencing and gates, which means visitors to the Laycock Street Open Space can enjoy the amenity for many years to come, while Islington Borough Council can be sure of minimal ongoing expenditure on maintenance and repairs.
