BP’s Saltend Plant, Hull

Contractor: Vivergo Fuels
Type of works: supply of twenty-nine 32’ x 10’ blast-resistant accommodation units.

Wernick Hire negotiated a contract to supply twenty-nine 32’ x 10’ blast-resistant accommodation units for a £200m construction project at BP’s Saltend Plant, near Hull. Vivergo Fuels, a consortium that includes BP, British Sugars and DuPont, is constructing a biofuel plant at the site. The new plant will convert a variety of feedstocks, including wheat and sugar beet into ethanol.

The blast-resistant units, which will include an 8-bay blast-resistant modular building, will be equipped internally as offices, mess units, locker rooms, toilet and shower blocks. All the accommodation supplied by Wernick is constructed to conform to a 150mb blast rating.
