Client: Butterwick Hospice Care
Contractor: Burts Carpets & Floors
Type of works: Polysafe Wood FX Acoustic vinyl flooring installed in hospice.
A unique combination of sustainable slip resistance, excellent acoustic performance and outstanding good looks led Butterwick Hospice Care to choose Polysafe Wood FX Acoustic multi-functional sheet vinyl flooring from commercial flooring specialist Polyflor Ltd for the reception area, corridors and day room at their Stockton-on-Tees hospice.
"Quality of life for patients is a vital element of hospice care and this floorcovering, as well as being easy on the eye, helps insulate against noise transfer between rooms whilst at the same time enhancing underfoot safety for patients, visitors and staff," said hospice communications manager, Jackie Leighton.
The flooring was installed at the hospice by Darlington-based flooring contractor Burts Carpets and specified by Anne Johnson, Butterwick's head of non-clinical services. Polysafe Wood FX Acoustic, in eight highly attractive and realistic timber-effect designs, is seen as ideal for use within hospitals, schools and mixed occupancy premises as well as within student accommodation, hotels and residential care.
In acoustic performance terms, the product exceeds the legal requirements set down in the Building Regulations Part E, achieving a impact sound reduction level of 19dB, making it suitable for use within multi-storey dwellings and commercial buildings. Polysafe Wood FX Acoustic is also ideally suited to single-storey commercial premises where it is desirable to encourage a quieter working environment for both employees and visitors.
And because the flooring achieves its acoustic performance by means of an integrated foam backed layer, it offers both enhanced underfoot comfort and anti-fatigue benefits in premises where employees may be required to stand for long periods of time.
As well as acoustic performance, 3.7mm gauge Polysafe Wood FX Acoustic incorporates a 0.65mm clear PVC wear layer with clear aluminium oxide particles incorporated throughout the main wear layer to ensure enhanced, sustainable slip resistance.
In common with all Polysafe ranges, Polysafe Wood FX Acoustic complies fully with HSE Guidelines, providing sustained slip resistance throughout the guaranteed life of the product. The ranges also achieve 36+ on the RRL Pendulum wet test (Slider 96/Four S rubber) with a surface roughness of 20 microns and above to ensure a low slip risk classification.
Polysafe Wood FX Acoustic also meets the performance requirements of EN 651, the standard for resilient floorcoverings with a foam layer.
