Creating a befitting entrance to the UK head office of one of the world’s leading electronic design firms, Cadence Design Systems, TORMAX has installed its sophisticated RONDOR circular, sliding, automatic door system. Based on two curved, sliding, automatic doors that move independently, the RONDOR is powered by technologically-advanced TORMAX TEP operators that are neatly housed within the circular casing. Minimalist in design, the RONDOR has many advantages over more traditional entrances, offering an opening space of up to 50% larger than would be available if a traditional sliding door was installed in the same location.

To maintain the external appearance of the building, Cadence felt that after 15 years of reliable service, the original TORMAX automatic door needed replacing. Creating an architectural feature, the new RONDOR stands high at almost 3.5m and, with the shell being constructed for longevity from brushed stainless steel, it is expected to last well into the future.

Encouraging efficiency, the RONDOR has been linked up to a remote building access system, permitting the doors and the electronic locking mechanism to be operated from a single terminal. This allows door opening speed and hold-open time to be easily adjusted to the flow of pedestrian traffic, effectively minimising heat loss from the building. Further reducing heat loss, an optional hot-air curtain was installed into the ceiling above the entrance.

For security, the night setting allows the outer door to be opened to give visitors protection under the canopy, whilst only opening the inner door to 200mm.
