Cambridge University – department of Genetics

Following on from the 2 earlier projects for the Department of Engineering, EcoCooling were asked to provide cooling for a small data centre at the Department of Genetics.

After careful consideration and discussion with the Engineering Department the go ahead was given to use the EcoCooling system for a new small data centre in this Grade Two listed 200 year old building.

The department wanted to create a small data room and they needed as much power as possible in the Data racks, but had run out of power. By using just one EcoCooling CREC, up to 35kW of cooling can be provided by just 1.5kW of power into the EcoCooling system. Since the cooling requirement is only 20kW at the moment, less power will be required and there is also spare capacity for expansion when required.

The system is controlled by a Crouzet Schneider control system which controls the cooler, dampers, and extract to provide the required environment within the room. No back-up system has been installed.
