Kaba Door Systems has installed its new low-energy KOAX™ DC-motor drive and commercial roller-shutters at a number of secure car parks across central London.

Working with Zeag, Kaba installed 12 security roller-shutter doors driven by low-energy KOAX™ motor drive units at various sites including, St John’s Wood, Knightsbridge and Abingdon Street, Westminster.

The motors drive the roller shutters and together with Zeag the automated barrier system, provide secure entry and exit points. The motors are mains driven, but in the event of a power failure revert to battery back-up guaranteeing continual operation. The new motor is passively safe, energy efficient and eradicates the need for torsion springs, haul-chains and other conventional system components.

Paul Leach, Zeag, said: "Zeag supplied and installed new car park control equipment at 15 sites throughout central London. With security and safety of customers and property a priority, a reliable solution to secure the sites was required. It was our brief that the sites should be operated remotely from a control room located at Park Lane, so integration of the roller-shutter doors and car-park control equipment was required. Kaba and Zeag worked together to provide our client with a seamless solution whereby the secure roller-shutter could be raised remotely from the control room, by the customer using a key fob, or automatically as they exit the car park.’’

Paul Leach continues: "Kaba also installed a secure pedestrian entry door that we linked back to the central control room for remote operation."

He says: "The KOAX™ system installed provides an almost silent operation which is particularly important as some of the sites are in residential areas and operate 24 hours a day. Safety during operation is paramount, with two safety devices the KOAX™ roller-shutter gave us the confidence to use the system with minimal supervision, and this, coupled with the provision to continue operation in the event of a power failure, means it is the ideal solution for use in a public environment".
