Caroline Chisholm School, Northampton

Client: Wooldale Centre for Learning, Kajima Construction
Architect: Building Design Partnership
Type of works: supplied Faber standard & blackout roller blinds and ElectroShades®.

The school is at the heart of a recently completed £25 million campus providing state-of-the-art facilities for learning and leisure, incorporating a joint school/public library, nursery and extensive community facilities. It is the first purpose-built school in the country to take pupils from the age of 4 through to the 6th Form. The whole complex has been designed so the learning space is linked along a covered student walkway.

In addition to the main classroom windows, blinds were required for high-level windows in the sports hall and blackout blinds in the labs.
Roller blinds with Dapple Slate fabric provided solar shading for the classroom areas, and Faber Series One Blackout roller blinds were used for areas where maximum light exclusion was an important criteria. For the high level windows in the sports hall, ElectroShade® roller sunscreening was used, an electrically-operated system that is particularly suitable for high, wide and inaccessible windows.
