Cast stone window and door surrounds: standard and bespoke

Cast stone window and door surrounds: standard and bespoke

Procter Cast Stone has created an extensive range of high-quality standard catalogue window and door surrounds, and the company also has the capability to manufacture products to architects' drawings for new-build projects, restorations, alterations, conversions and extensions.

Included within the catalogue range are cills (sills), heads, mullions, door jambs and bullseyes. For each type of product there is a choice of designs and sizes so that architects can easily and economically incorporate the cast stone features within their schemes. For projects where the architect has a free reign, Procter Cast Stone can manufacture bespoke cast stone window and door surrounds; at one end of the scale the designs can be adapted from a standard product or, at the other end, unique designs can be brought to fruition. In addition, architects can either select from the standard colours available; such as Aire, Light Yorkstone, Millstone Grit, Cheshire Red or Light Portland; or specify virtually any non-standard colour to mimic a different quarried stone or to create a unique aesthetic.

For renovations, restorations and conversions, Procter Cast Stone's experienced staff undertake site surveys to ensure that cast stone units match the quarried stone units that are being replaced or replicated. Architects should note that cast stone is suitable for use in listed buildings and conservations areas and, if necessary, Procter Cast Stone can support and assist its clients in negotiating with planners.

For standard cast stone window and door surrounds, Procter Cast Stone has made its CAD drawings available through FastrackCAD to help architects prepare their CAD layouts. Alternatively, the company can work from architects' CAD files or hand-drawn designs when preparing the wooden moulds in which bespoke cast stone units are manufactured. Although cast stone units are manufactured in moulds that can be reused many times, the production process is also cost-effective even when one-offs are required. Cast stone is almost always a cheaper alternative to quarried and carved stone, yet the two are indistinguishable to the untrained eye and cast stone weathers in the same way as quarried stone and lasts as long - with the proviso that a reputable supplier is used.

If required, Procter Cast Stone can supply additional standard or bespoke products such as bay windows, canopies, porticos, arches, columns, corbels, cornice, ashlar, string course, banding, plinth, quoins, gable vents, date stones, coping, pier caps, steps and balustrade.
