Centrium, Woking

Client: Barratt Homes
Main contractor: Ardmore Construction
Type of works: Alumasc’s Swistherm insulation and facades were selected to realise the contemporary design of a new apartment development in Woking.

Centrium House is a landmark building whose curved facades and striking bold colours make a distinctive statement in the town centre. As a market-leading exterior building products manufacturer, Alumasc was chosen as a partner in the project because of the technical support the company could offer during the specification stage of the project and beyond. Throughout, Alumasc worked closely with the main contractor, Ardmore Construction.

The Swistherm system met all the aesthetic and thermal performance criteria of the project in a cost-effective package.  A lightweight, thin-coat, insulated render system, Swistherm delivers all the advantages of external wall insulation to new building applications. It is suitable for unrestricted use on buildings of up to six storeys and can even be applied to high-rise applications, subject to Alumasc project evaluation and approval.

The striking effects at Centrium House were created using the ST range of lightweight renders. Specifiers can choose from a decorative silicone top coat for enhanced overall performance or opt for an eco-friendly mineral-based render. Both can be applied with rolled or dragged surface texture, and in a wide range of colours to complement contemporary architecture.

Swistherm is a popular choice for new builds such as Centrium as it is fully weather resistant while remaining vapour permeable. Requiring minimal routine maintenance, it achieves a façade that is highly resistant to impact damage and can be easily repaired if necessary. Once installed by approved specialist contractors, the BBA-approved (00/3766) system has a life expectancy of over 30 years.
