Certass approve Guardian Compliance Calculator for Window Energy Ratings
With the Window Energy Ratings being a popular means of complying with current Building Regulation, part L1b for replacement windows, Guardian have investigated many different routes to make the process of certifying their products with the specifier and their customers windows, as easy and stress free as possible.
Guardian Industries' recently commissioned compliance calculator (Building Regulation Compliance Assistant) has proved to be a great success, enabling anyone using Guardian ClimaGuard products to instantly identify how different window component combinations perform when combined with the firm's ClimaGuard A & ClimaGuard D low emissivity glasses. This proved to be a great help for many customers, with hundreds of CDs requested and distributed, the Building Regulation compliance calculator has made it easier than ever to use and sell the ClimaGuard low emissivity glasses.
However, as helpful as the compliance calculator has proved to be, there has been one resounding factor which kept coming back to the firm; that customers using our ClimaGuard products would like to be able to use the calculated result from the CD, as evidence of Window Energy Rating performance! The firm took this feedback and approached Certass Thermal Rating Register to see if they would approve the CD as evidence of Window Energy Rating performance. Jason Clemitt at Certass reviewed the results on our compliance CD, and has agreed that customers using our calculator can simply print off a copy of the relevant results page and attach it to a Thermal Rating Register (TRR) application in line with the specified tolerance and requirement of a TRR licence.
The printed results are then attached to the form as evidence of the windows energy performance. This means that in the majority of cases there is no need to have a simulation report produced, just select the window components from the drop down lists on the calculator and print the results page.
There are, however, going to be some cases where the results achieved are borderline, for example if the result produced achieves a C rating with an energy index of -19, in this case the user still needs to get a full simulation done to confirm the result accurately achieves the desired C rating. In this scenario, Certass have given Guardian Industries the facility to use their own TRR WER calculator, which is the same calculator Certass provide to their IGU scheme members. This allows accurate results for borderline cases, all you need to do is email your window configuration to Guardian at EMAIL A FRIEND
