Criminal Courts of Justice, Dublin

Criminal Courts of Justice, Dublin

Described by the Irish Times as the most significant public building, built in Dublin since the Four Courts in 1746, The Criminal Courts of Justice, were formally opened by the Irish President on the 16th January 2010. This project affirmed our capacity, production and installation capabilities on a project of this size. Building upon relationships with Irish Architects Henry J Lyons, we have now worked on their new Head Quarters Building and Main Contractor PJ Hegarty & Sons, from whom we have gained repeat business at Terminal 2 Dublin Airport. We believe that securing repeat business on such a large scale commission is testament to our performance and capabilities.

This project has been proclaimed as a new landmark set on the edge of Dublin’s Phoenix Park. The bespoke courtroom fit out incorporates the highest levels of technology with sustainably sourced walnut. The quality of the design is complemented by the use of natural timbers. The calm, light filled spaces convey an air of dignity, their interiors are deliberately low key, reflecting the various court sightlines requirements.

Due to the scale of the project, Specialist Joinery Group were involved in detailed programming to ensure project delivery within a strict timescale. The modern courtroom, is highly technological, in terms of audio visual and security installations. We successfully coordinated our installation with relevant sub contractors- to deliver our element of the works within our agreed programme and has no impact on other sub contractors programmes.

When installing solid timbers in a construction environment, it is vital to ensure that ambient temperatures and humidity’s are maintained, to allow for proper settlement of the timber. During the design phase of the project, we utilized our experience and briefed the design team on the properties of materials. This approach ensured that the Main Contractor was aware of the performance requirements and was able to ensure that the environmental conditions were maintained throughout our installation until building handover.

Specialist Joinery Team agreed to work a night shift pattern. This approach ensured delivery of the project within the programme.
