Client: Croydon University Hospital
Flooring contractor: KD Flooring
Type of works: design, manufacture and supply of Polyflor heterogeneous and homogeneous vinyl flooring.

A mix of heterogeneous and homogeneous vinyl flooring from Polyflor has been specified to help enhance the appearance of the kitchen and dining areas at Croydon University Hospital.

Attractive Forest FX and Stone FX heterogeneous sheet was used in the diner while Polysafe Ultima heavy-duty safety flooring with enhanced slip resistance was laid in the kitchen, all installed by London’s KD Flooring.

“We went with Polyflor because the products offer the perfect mix of visual quality and safety, maintenance and hygiene benefits,” commented Projects Officer, Scott James. “We set very high standards when it comes to caring for our patients and looking after staff and that includes maintaining a bright, clean and safe hospital environment.”

All three products have been independently tested and results demonstrate that they inhibit the growth of MRSA and can be welded at the seams to provide a hygienic surface, offering no sanctuary to dirt and bacteria which is crucial for any healthcare facility.

With a 0.7mm wearlayer, Forest FX and Stone FX offer excellent durability and are ideally suited to high traffic applications. Both products also feature Polyflor’s market-leading polyurethane reinforcement (PUR), which facilitates a polish-free maintenance regime, significantly reducing cleaning costs compared to traditional measures, and helping to minimise water and chemical usage.

Polysafe Ultima was specified because it meets the HSE Guidelines for a commercial kitchen area where there is a higher risk of slippage. The product achieves a sustainable ≥40 slip resistance (RRL Pendulum wet test – Four-S/Slider 96 rubber) and a surface roughness reading of over Rz ≥70µm, recommended to cope safely with all levels of spillage of olive oil, cooking stock, margarine and similar high viscosity contaminants in kitchens and food processing areas.
