Daikin market leader in high efficient heat pumps

Daikin market leader in high efficient heat pumps

Since its introduction in 2006, more than 150,000 Daikin Altherma systems have been sold. This milestone represents a focused effort by Daikin Europe to develop its heat pump portfolio as well as its sales and support network throughout Europe. As a result, Daikin is now the market leader in heat pump based systems in Europe.

Leveraging years of heat pump experience to meet the need for efficient heat

In the light of global warming and depleting supplies of fossil fuels, the market is hungry for sustainable, energy-efficient alternatives to traditional heating systems. Hence, in 2006, Daikin launched Daikin Altherma, an air-to-water heat pump system that extracts energy from the air to efficiently provide heating and domestic hot water. The over 50 years of expertise of Daikin in heat pump technology made Daikin Altherma an immediate success, with already 10,000 units sold in 2007.

The system’s exceptional performance was confirmed in 2009 when Daikin Europe N.V. was the first in the air-to-water heat pump sector to be awarded the Ecolabel, this for its Daikin Altherma low temperature. This label provided the market with independent verification of Daikin Altherma low temperature’s performance with respect to a range of EU-wide environmental criteria for heat pumps.

Expansion into renovation, apartment buildings and commercial markets

In the meantime, the Daikin Altherma range has been expanded to include solutions for the renovation and commercial markets. Daikin Altherma high temperature (introduced in 2009) uses a cascade technology to achieve leaving water temperatures up to 80° C while maintaining high efficiency. This makes it an ideal solution for the replacement of existing homes using high temperature radiators.

The award winning Daikin Altherma Flex Type (available since 2010) extended the benefits of Daikin Altherma to multiple occupancy buildings. It provides efficient heating, cooling and domestic hot water in a single system, with one or more outdoor units supporting individual indoor units. The indoor units allow individual control and billing of separate areas, making Daikin Altherma Flex Type ideal for apartment buildings, but also for hotels and sport & leisure complexes.

Market leader in heat pumps

The market has responded enthusiastically to these developments, with 150,000 Daikin Altherma systems being sold to date. In the light of this success, a new range of Daikin Altherma will be launched in 2012.

This success is also thanks to the growing Daikin Altherma sales and support network. This network has been enhanced by developing existing Daikin air conditioning outlets and augmenting these with targeted acquisitions such as the takeover of Rotex in 2008 and Airfel in 2011. In this way, it is also possible to offer a full range of heating solutions, which include solar collectors, domestic hot water tanks, convectors, under floor heating and condensing boilers.

European Development Center

All Daikin heating products for Europe are developed and manufactured in Europe. The Daikin European Development Center, located in Ostend, Belgium, is the heart of this development. Its facilities include elaborate test rooms to simulate the climatic conditions of all 27 EU countries, ensuring that Daikin heating systems are optimally suited to the climates in which they operate.

Thanks to Daikin Altherma, 150,000 dwellings and commercial spaces are now heated with efficient renewable energy. And because of the expanded and strong Daikin network, these customers are assured of the highest quality professional installation and service.
