Darwin Green Local Centre, Cambridge

Darwin Green Local Centre, Cambridge

Shared social spaces are integral to the design of the new Darwin Green development in Cambridge where Broxap Street Furniture was commissioned to provide seating and cycle parking equipment.

The masterplan for the scheme provides a series of streets which connect to wider open spaces and the local centre along pedestrian and cycle-friendly routes.

The public realm areas are framed by a variety of homes and buildings and have been designed for all ages to enjoy.

Working for contractor Kier Construction, Broxap designed and manufactured unique outdoor seating options to enhance the street scene and enable residents to benefit from the healthy and sustainable community spaces.

A number of straight and L-shaped FSC timber benches were manufactured to complement the neighbourhood’s timber frame buildings and surround huge planters designed to enhance the area’s ecology and biodiversity.

In the retail area, a spiral shaped bench takes centre stage as a community meeting point or place to socialise.

Timber benches and steel framed timber seats are also situated throughout the commercial centre for smaller groups and individuals to take advantage of.

Sheffield Cycle Parking Stands powder coated jet black offer ample cycle parking and Broxap’s Eco Steel litter and recycling bins have been paired to encourage recycling-on-the-go.
