Type of works: manufacture and supply of a floating sunshade
The Dean McGee Eye Institute is a vision research center that features a distinctive floating sunshade, which protects the interior atrium lobby from the western sun. Glazing arms extend out from radial, horizontal steel sections to fasten segmented, point supported glass panels. Vertical steel sections attach the sunshade back to the main building and fasten to the horizontal steel sections via hidden bolted connections. Tinted, dichroic glass panels, engineered to provide solar control, complete this eye-catching sunshade.
The structure is a AES and BB Primed and painted circular hollow steel sections support the screen wall. At each main support, hidden bolted connections mechanically fasten the sections. The glazing is a PSG Stainless steel glazing arms and rotules attach fully tempered, tinted, laminated glass panels with a ceramic frit for solar control.
