DECKPLANNER™ success shows demand for decking this summer

Richard Burbidge’s innovative new online planning tool DECKPLANNER™has already been used by more than 5,000 people this summer, showing the demand that exists for this popular landscaping project.

The unique interactive service is being regularly used by homeowners and professional builders to design outdoor areas, and has also been endorsed by the Timber Decking Association (TDA), which has praised DECKPLANNER™'s usability and accuracy.

Developed to make it quick and easy to design outdoor areas, DECKPLANNER™ allows users to choose from the company’s full range of outdoor balustrade, deckboards and joists to create plans, parts lists and project costs in just a few simple steps. The service can be used to design decks and hard landscaping areas in a wide variety of applications, including homes, hotels and restaurants.

Says Catriona Nicholls, Decking Product Manager for Richard Burbidge: “The popularity of our DECKPLANNER™ service is further evidence of the continued demand for decking. We’ve seen peaks in activity around the traditional Bank Holiday gardening periods, which is great news for professional builders and decking installers, showing that homeowners are once again undertaking landscaping projects.

“Deck builders themselves are also using DECKPLANNER™ as a sales tool and added value service to develop plans for customers, especially if the homeowner isn’t Internet savvy or online. Plus, DECKPLANNER™ also allows users to design an outdoor space using a number of different balustrade systems. This means installers can present homeowners with a choice of ‘good, better, best’ which is an effective way of upselling that leads to better cash margins on installations.

“The downloadable balustrade plans are also proving popular amongst installers as they provide accurate scaled line drawings with measurements and post positions to aid installation. Plans can also be downloaded showing the deckboard laying patterns, framing suggestions and joist/beam positioning, all of which helps to make life easier for the deck builder.”

After confirming the type of outdoor balustrade system required (domestic, raised or commercial) and the appropriate balustrade strength category to satisfy UK Building Regulations, DECKPLANNER™ invites users to select a system, including the timber type and spindle, panel and newel designs. At this stage, deckboards and joists can also be added with options for size and orientation.

To help calculate the number of components required, users can then confirm their deck size and define each side as open, against a wall or fitted with balustrade, on a ‘virtual deck layout’.

User-friendly information icons are positioned throughout the site, with helpful explanations of technical terms. Plus, downloadable fitting instructions and maintenance advice are also available, once product selection is complete.

Richard Burbidge offers a wide range of outdoor balustrade systems, suitable for use in domestic and commercial applications. All are manufactured in line with the DeckMark™ quality and performance scheme operated by the TDA, which provides independent confirmation of their quality and fitness for purpose.
