Client: NHS Cumbria Dental Service
Contractor: Geltsdale Carpets
Type of works: installation of Polysafe Corona sheet vinyl safety flooring.

Elegantly attractive, high-performance, low-maintenance Polysafe Corona sheet vinyl safety flooring, from commercial flooring specialist Polyflor Ltd, has been installed throughout a Ł4million new-build dental training centre in Carlisle.

The centre, one of four in the North of England set up to train dentists, also houses the NHS Cumbria Dental Service team which provides advanced specialist care for locally referred dental patients.

Slip-resistant Polysafe Corona, in a pleasing Geyser Blue colourway, was installed by local flooring contractor Geltsdale Carpets across entrance areas, corridors and treatment and training rooms.

The outstanding decorative appeal of the product is fully matched by its environmental and general performance. Polysafe Corona is one of a number of Polysafe ranges that have achieved a BRE Global environmental A+ rating in major use areas such as healthcare and education (certificate No: ENP 336). The product rating is based on an assessment on the whole life environmental impact of the flooring over a building life of 60 years.

The top environmental rating of A+ is also achieved across Polyflor’s portfolio of homogeneous vinyl floorcoverings, meaning that specification of Polyflor flooring can help contribute to a healthy BREEAM score.

Combining the latest advanced performance and maintenance technology with a superbly fresh colour palette, Polysafe Corona incorporates Supratec+, the second generation of Polyflor’s unique soil releasing polymer system, now including polyurethane for reduced dirt pick up and even easier maintenance. This means that Corona can offer cleaning cost savings of up to 60% over traditional safety flooring over a 15 year period.

Polysafe Corona also features a new advanced formulation, providing enhanced flexibility for even easier fitting and welding. As well as being BBA Agrément certified as G5ws, Corona provides sustainable slip-resistance throughout its guaranteed life, achieving ≥36 on the RRL Pendulum wet test (Four-S/Slider 96 rubber). This, combined with a surface roughness of Rz ≥20µm, ensures that Corona complies with Health and Safety Executive guidance, with full conformance to EN 13845, the European Norm for Safety Flooring.

Available in a choice of 12 vivid colours, Polysafe Corona has been independently tested and results demonstrate that the product inhibits the growth of MRSA on the flooring. An effective cleaning regime is, however, the most important defence against infection.

Fully tested to fire safety standard EN 13501-1, Polysafe Corona is certified as Class Bfl-S1, achieving the criteria EN ISO 9239-1 ≥8kw/m2 and the mandatory requirement of EN ISO 11925-2 pass.

In addition, Polysafe Corona is 100% recyclable and contains recycled material. A full Environmental Report detailing Polyflor’s achievements in areas such as recycling, energy reduction and waste avoidance can be found at www.polyflor.com/environment.
