Devonport Royal Dockyard

Type of works: design, manufacture and installation of hinged single-leaf watertight doors.

Booth was awarded the design, manufacture and installation of 6 hinged single-leaf watertight doors at the Royal Dockyard. The doorsets are required to provide watertight protection during the flooding of the docks during the entry and exit of submarines into the dock for maintenance purposes.

The doors provided water protection to a depth of over 10m and water pressure of 100kPa. Fabricated in carbon steel, each doorset had a quick release handwheel operation operating 6 wedge compression bolts simultaneously providing uniform seal compression for maximum performance.
