Entrance canopy and shelter for St Mark's School

Setter was asked to design a canopy to shelter the entrance to the building at St Mark's school and to provide the children with a big open space to play in all year round.

The company designed a canopy with opaque roof panels which would run the entire length of the building. It would contain two different areas, separated by a picket fence. One side of the shelter would be used for messy outdoor play. The other side would be for general outdoor play, and provide an area for parents to stand in during drop off and pick up time.

The opaque roof panels let the light through but do not cause a greenhouse effect. This means it does not get too hot underneath the shelter ensuring the children do not overheat when playing. Also, toys and equipment stored underneath the shelter will not become hot from sunlight.
