Type of works: supply and fit of Heald's anti-vandal Roadblockers and heavy-duty automated arm barriers.

Heald was approached to upgrade security measures at a high-volume airport location of the UK’s leading car hire company, Europcar. The brief was to supply a high-security system incorporated with traffic management, to increase speed and efficiency of operation.

Following meetings at the newly developed site, Heald supplied and fitted a bespoke solution for the client including three anti-vandal Roadblockers and four of Heald’s heavy-duty automated arm barriers, incorporating custom built and programmed PLC’s to enable detection of unauthorised vehicle passage. This allowed airlock integration to further enhance the site security. Following the success of the first phase, a further three Roadblockers and five automated arm barriers were supplied and installed by Heald during phase 2 of the works.

The full upgrade of the site was completed in 2008 and has since run with a 100% success rate. The site’s Fleet Manager had this to say: “Our initial and on-going security requirements are very demanding – Heald rose to the challenge and has successfully provided us with 100% reliable, efficient and cost effective solutions to meet those demands.”

The security system mirrors a similar site Heald upgraded at another major airport that has run successfully for over 10 years.

As a result of the success of the recent upgrades to the car hire site’s security, Heald has been awarded further contracts to improve security at other major airport car hire depots.

This has again highlighted Heald’s commitment to providing high quality and reliable bespoke solutions to fit the needs of the client.
