Exciting Times for Parsons Group Joinery

On the back of celebrating their 50th anniversary, Sheffield based construction company, Parsons Group, have just completed a comprehensive modernisation and extension of their joinery manufacturing operation. The project which will enable capacity to be doubled, as well as seeing substantial productivity benefits, has been phased over the past year to avoid disruption to ongoing manufacture of bespoke joinery products.

Managing Director, Howard Parsons, said: "These are exciting times for the company. Despite the difficult economic climate we took the decision to improve our manufacturing facilities in order that we can continue to provide high quality bespoke joinery at competitive prices to a larger market. We are now seeing the benefits as we emerge from the downturn with a rapidly developing customer base, projected record turnover figures and improved profitability."

The group, which was founded by two brothers in 1958 as S&A Parsons Limited, is a traditional family business that now employs the third generation of family members and remains based in Killamarsh, just south of Sheffield. Initially a general building company, the business now specialises in ‘decent homes' refurbishment programmes across the region and bespoke joinery manufacture throughout the UK.

Away from the business, General Manager John Thornhill recently completed the 192 mile Coast to Coast walk in aid of the Lavender Trust, which is the part of Breast Cancer Care that supports younger women. John sadly lost his sister Louise to the illness last year at the age of 43 after a five year battle. The walk which took two weeks saw John carrying all his equipment and camping en route along the path devised and made famous by Alfred Wainwright and raising around £4,000 in the process.

John said: "It was a hugely enjoyable experience walking across wonderful countryside although my battered knees might not agree. While it was emotional on occasions it also enabled me to reflect on the positive aspects of Lou's life while raising a substantial sum to help the Lavender Trust.

"Parson's as a company were tremendously supportive of both me and the fundraising effort and I am hugely grateful to them."
