CPD: Fatigue in Tubular Steelwork - Eurocode 3 Part 1-9

Tata Steel - Structural Steel

This presentation gives an introduction to Fatigue and how it relates to the related but different limit state of fracture.

It gives an overview of the types of structure that should be designed for fatigue and guidance on which standards, published documents and guides are available to engineers, to assist in this aim. The presentation describes how a fatigue design should be carried out in line with Eurocodes and how design information should tie in within specification of quantified service categories; it describes how PF6705-2 should be used in conjunction with EN1090-2 and requirements for standards of workmanship in fabrication.

A detailed worked example for a machine floor of tubular latticework floor construction is used as a worked example to demonstrate the difference between the classification method and the hot spot stress method. The presentation concludes with an overview Inspection and methods of repair and retrofit for structures suffering fatigue damage.
