Flowcrete Floor Performs for Pets Hospital
Specialist flooring manufacturer Flowcrete has stepped up to the mark to deliver a high-performance floor for a new state-of-the-art small animal hospital at the University of Glasgow.
One of the busiest small animal hospitals in the UK, the facility needed to expand in order to continue providing advanced levels of care, coupled with unrivalled facilities for students and practising vets.
Flowcrete Flowfast flooring was chosen for the installation partly due to its speed of application it is ready for use only two hours after installation and because it provides a seamless, hard-wearing and hygienic surface.
A total of 2,600 sq m of Flowfast Terrosso which creates a seamless terrazzo style finish - were applied by Flowcrete approved contractor, Industrial Floor Treatments Ltd of East Kilbride. A special colour was developed for the project, with a White shade blended with Black and Grey.
Flowfast Terrosso was used throughout the ground floor of the building including the entrance foyer, consulting rooms, treatment areas and kennels.
To add contrast, 300 sq m of the decorative quartz system Flowfast Quartz were installed in the reception area. Again a special colour was created for the project, a Grey shade blended with Black and White.
Both floors - which were installed over Flowcretes time-proven Isocrete K-Screed - offered flexibility in design and colour to fall into line with the architects specification, without compromising on quality.
Their anti-slip properties were adjusted to suit the very specific needs of the client and Flowcrete provided large scale sample boards in varying textures to allow the hospital to test the flooring for slip resistance with animals prior to installation.
Project Director, Russell Baxter, from architects Archial Group of Glasgow, said: We chose Flowcrete because the finish was seamless and easy to keep clean as per the clients specification, while still allowing us to choose the colours and design to fit in with the overall aesthetic.
Once we established a texture which met our clients requirements, the product went down quickly and easily.
