Forbo showcases the world’s most sustainable floor covering for today’s interiors

Manufactured using an unrivalled 97% natural raw materials - 70% of which are rapidly renewable - and with 40% recycled content, Marmoleum, the market leading linoleum brand from Forbo Flooring Systems, is without doubt the most natural and sustainable floor covering that can be specified for today’s interiors.

At this year’s Ecobuild, visitors to Forbo’s stand (No.S630) will have the opportunity to interact first hand with the natural, harvestable raw ingredients that give Marmoleum its unsurpassed sustainability. Forming the basis of this remarkable product is linseed oil derived from the flax plant, whilst other natural renewable materials such as rosin and responsibly sourced wood flour provide the strength, flexibility, colourfastness and beautifully smooth surface which make it a universally popular flooring choice.

Forbo uses Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) to measure environmental impact, while Forbo's flagship brand Marmoleum has been awarded more Ecolabels than any other flooring product in the world. These include Nature Plus accreditation and most importantly of all, the Nordic Swan Mark. This particular eco-label is only ever awarded to the most sustainable product in any given category and can only be retained if regular assessments show that continuous improvements are being made.

With such exceptional environmental performance Marmoleum responds to the ecological concerns of the most discerning specifiers. Whilst providing an ideal flooring solution to meet the most demanding sustainability briefs, it also delivers in aesthetic terms, as the ‘colour walls’ on Forbo’s stand will clearly demonstrate. A comprehensive colour offer and array of versatile designs ensures that Marmoleum fulfils the needs of a wide range of commercial and public sector flooring projects.

Forbo has made a firm commitment to improve sustainability across its entire product portfolio and in 2009 set an ambitious target of reducing its LCA score by 25% by 2015. Visitors to the company’s stand can find out more about the initiatives across its Carpet Tile, Flotex and Entrance Flooring System product categories and are also invited to attend a seminar at Ecobuild run by Carpet Recycling UK at 12.30pm on Thursday 22nd March. Forbo’s Head of Design Jason Holmes will present the company’s Green Design principles as part of the session, which focuses on designing with recycled content.
