Great Northern Tower, Manchester M3

Client: George Wimpey City/Carillion
Architect: Assel Architecture Ltd
Value: £32.8 million
Type of works: supply of banks of freestanding mailboxes for 257 residential apartments.

The GN Tower sits on a long, narrow strip of land in the centre of Manchester between the new Manchester International Convention Centre and the Grade II Listed Great Northern Warehouse. The development comprises 237 residential units with restaurants and shops facing the street and square. The apartments rise 26 storeys above the square, becoming a dramatic form on the Manchester skyline. Between 1999 and 2006, mailboxes were installed in freestanding banks in a satin stainless-steel finish in certain areas and a White finish in others.
