Type of works: design and installation of a washroom solution for a well-established smoked salmon factory that has a sophisticated restaurant and events venue overlooking the Olympics 2012 venue.
IGLOOS worked closely with the client and architect to achieve a workable layout taking into account sight lines and ergonomics. Materials were chosen to match those used in the existing washrooms and bearing in mind usage and durability. The building had existing drainage in an access floor beneath so all the pipe work was laid out for easy access.
To keep the industrial feel of the building the design of the rooms made use of the high curved ceilings and exposed ventilation pipes. For this reason, the client also chose a seamless cubicle system with additional height. The cubicle system was designed and fabricated by IGLOOS, especially for this job, from moisture-resistant MDF combined with laminated doors edged in hardwood.
Vanity units were chosen to match the cubicle fronts with a post-formed top, Duravit basins with chrome pipe work under the counter top acting as a feature. Full mirrors were used to brighten up the area and make it feel more spacious.
The client also chose Dyson hand dryers for their efficiency and low power consumption. In the ladies a vanity area was installed; this had room for three stools and is in keeping with the rest of material used within the room.
The client requested that the design be as environmentally efficient as possible, therefore IGLOOS used waterless urinals which rely on a speed liquid in a cartridge to prevent smell, and this meant that there was no reason to have a water flushing system. There were also two disabled loos specified within the brief and these were fitted out to the same specification and finish.
