Haddonstone wins Gold at the International Green Apple Awards

Haddonstone has been presented with the prestigious Gold Award (Building Materials) for Environmental practises and sustainable development.

Haddonstone, the UK’s leading manufacturer of fine architectural-cast stonework, won the award for its work providing custom-cast stonework for the restoration of Scarborough Spa in North Yorkshire. The International Green Apple Awards are presented by the Green Organisation to those who set the standard in the environmental practice and sustainable development.

Haddonstone’s Marketing Director, Simon Scott, said: “Haddonstone is delighted to have received the prestigious gold award in recognition of its high-quality architectural-cast stonework which was used restore the prestigious Scarborough Spa.”

Haddonstone was approached by Scarborough Borough Council, who own and manage Scarborough Spa, to replace existing stonework which was badly eroding. Haddonstone was chosen as a suitable material for this project as dry cast stone was used to refurbish another part of the building 25 years ago and had been performing well. The company was also able to show the results of a rigorous series of assessments conducted by the renowned BRE laboratories, showing how the Haddonstone material passed, with flying colours, strenuous Salt Crystallisation and Water Absorption tests –essential if the stonework was to withstand the rigours of the North Sea.

Haddonstone last won a Green Apple Award in 2005 for its involvement in the renovation of Leazes Park in Newcastle.

There are over 500 standard designs in the Haddonstone Collection ranging from balustrading, copings and columns to porticos, quoins and door surrounds. Haddonstone also specialises in creating custom designs to individual specifications.
