Harrah’s Casino and Resort, Atlantic City, New Jersey

10 Jan 2010

Architect: Friedmutter Group
Type of works: design, manufacture and installation of a glass dome roof.

Harrah’s vision of a hotel addition that would include a naturally lit pool area became a reality through Novum engineering. To provide the most transparent solution, Novum developed a single layer dome with lightweight trussing as structural reinforcement. Concentric triangular trussing is located at the base, midway and at the top of the dome. By using the glass structurally, Novum completely eliminated a layer of heavy aluminium mullions. Glass panels were economized by making the geometry into rectangles instead of triangles. The result is a dome that joins the sky overhead in a seamless transition.

The mild-steel structure is hot-dip galvanized. BK nodes and tubes are liquid painted. KK tubes and nodes are powder coated. KK nodes are zinc plated. ECG liquid-painted aluminium clamps with stainless hardware support insulating glass with a PVB laminate lower layer, Argon filled air space and low-E coating.
