Hayfield Business Park, Doncaster
Client: Hayfield Business Park
Contractor: GMI Construction
Type of works: installation of 2,000 sq m of Aquaflow permeable paving.
The new Hayfield Business Park based at Robin Hood Airport in Finningley, Doncaster used Aquaflow permeable paving. An area in excess of 2,000 sq m was installed throughout the site, providing car parking and minor roads to the industrial park.
A SUDS system was an essential site requirement in order for the project to comply with and pass planning regulations. The ground conditions were ideal for this solution and the overall reduction in drainage costs, due to the omission of pipework, manholes and drainage design, was extremely appealing as well as the huge sustainability and green benefits it allowed.
At Hayfield, the client demanded a green sustainable approach and the engineers also benefited from a reduced drainage design scheme, therefore Aquaflow met everyones requirements.
The Hanson Formpave system allows rain to infiltrate through a permeable concrete block paved surface into a unique stone sub-base where it is cleaned, by filtration and microbial action, before being released in a controlled manner into sewers or water courses, or infiltrated directly into the sub-grade. Aquaflow paving blocks were used in conjunction with the infiltration system at the site. The system provided drainage through vertical channels and allowed water through the surface at a rate of approximately 9,000mm per hour (9,000 litres/m? per hour).
