Helical staircase for flagship Hugo Boss store

Project: Hugo Boss
Location: Nottingham
Fabrication: Staircase
Materials: Toughened laminated glass, slotted steel handrail, stone treads

CANAL has produced a helical staircase for the new Nottingham flagship store Hugo Boss, which launched its grand opening on Thursday 1st November, 2012.

With the store covering a huge 4,600 square metres it was up to CANAL to produce a spectacular staircase for the centre piece. Fabricating the double stringer, steel staircase in the workshop the CANAL team were able to get the perfect, elegant shape that was required. Fully assembled on site, 17.5mm toughened laminated low iron glass was added to the staircase while 21.5mm toughened laminated low iron glass was used for the first floor balustrade complimented with a black powder coated slotted steel handrail.

Finishing touches included stone treads with stainless steel inserts for a nosing detail and a plaster boarded soffit finished in a matt black paint.

The architect for the job David Taylor; AAVA Ltd was very pleased with the outcome stating,

“Thank you for your input on the Hugo Boss store; it was a tight schedule to produce such a complex stair. It looks excellent. Well done.”

Andrew Paxton, the Shop fitting Director at Newman Scott Ltd, echoed David and also added, “You did a great job and a great service.”
