Client: Hinchingbrooke Hospital
Contractor: Superior Finish (Contracts) Ltd
Type of works: design, manufacture and supply of Polysafe Ultima sheet vinyl safety flooring.

Super tough Polysafe Ultima sheet vinyl safety flooring from commercial flooring specialist Polyflor has been installed throughout the kitchen and servery at Hinchingbrooke Hospital in Huntingdon.

With the area previously fitted with ceramic tiles that were old, damaged and difficult to keep clean, Ultima was chosen to offer the combination of sustainable slip resistance and a seamless and hygienic finish without grouting that can harbour dirt.

Polysafe Ultima is suited to heavy-duty areas subjected to intense footfall and frequent risks of oil and grease spillages.

“When you walk across the floor, you can literally feel the added slip resistance that the floor provides,” explained Nigel Steel, Estates Operational Manager.

“Polysafe Ultima is the ideal solution for our busy kitchen, particularly with the intense traffic, the high number of meals served and the daily risk of cooking oil spillages.

Superior Finish (Contracts) Ltd of St Ives installed the 700m2 of Polysafe Ultima at the hospital.

In line with HSE Guidelines, the product achieves a sustainable ≥40 slip resistance (RRL Pendulum wet test – Four-S/Slider 96 rubber) and a surface roughness reading of over Rz ≥70µm, recommended to cope safely with all levels of spillage of olive oil, cooking stock, margarine and similar high viscosity contaminants in kitchens and food processing areas.

Polysafe Ultima has also been independently tested and results demonstrate that it inhibits the growth of MRSA on the surface of the flooring. An effective cleaning regime is, however, the most important defence against infection.

Fully conforming to EN 13845, the European Norm for safety flooring and flexible for ease of installation, coving and welding, Polysafe Ultima offers a choice of six practical and robust colours. As per an independent assessment by the British Board of Agrément, Polysafe Ultima’s product performance is assured for at least 10 years in recommended use areas, using the correct maintenance regime.
