S&P Architects approached Hunter Douglas with a view to specifying their wall panels for a eight lane swimming pool at the state of the art Inspire Sports Village in Luton.

The centre opened its doors to the public in August. Developed by the Luton Learning and Community Partnership Ltd, it is equipped to cater for all kinds of sports enthusiasts. Boasting a competition standard, eight lane pool and a 10m world class diving platform, Luton is now home to one of the best aquatic centres in the country.

Designed to reduce sound pressure levels and reverberation time, the panels are ideal for swimming pool projects. The product also minimised the complexity of the ceiling build which in turn reduced cost and installation time.

Hunter Douglas high grade aluminium ceiling and wall panels are ideal for use in swimming pool and exterior applications, being highly corrosion resistant and durable. There are a wide variety of coil coated paint finishes available from both the interior and exterior panel range.

Other facilities at the centre include; a 100 station gym, a ground floor cafe, a large sports hall and various treatment rooms and activity studios. Inspire was designed to ensure that all facilities could be accessed by wheel chair users. Wide corridors, accessible changing rooms and a low level reception desk were built to accommodate disabled customers.

To encourage walking and cycling to the centre, developers have installed 24 cycle parking spaces, improved pedestrian crossings and better public transport links.

Developers working on the Inspire project were keen to specify sustainable building materials. The eco-friendly properties of the Hunter Douglas ceiling and wall panels suited their design requirements.
