Synopsis:
To install complete perimeter edge protection to a new, three storey car park at the new Belfast IKEA. Berry Brisafe wire rope system to be used on the 1st and 2nd floors with integral anti-climb feature via the wire mesh infill panels to provide a barrier to both vehicles and pedestrians. The system to be anchored to the structural
columns with intermediate bollards fitted where necessary. Traditional barrier rail and Flexi-posts to be installed as a vehicle barrier in those few areas additionally protected by steel cladding in IKEA corporate colours.

The enormous success story that is IKEA finally came to Northern Ireland in December 2007 - the 270th IKEA store worldwide - and they chose the new Berry Brisafe Perimeter Edge System to protect cars and pedestrians in the car park. Set on a 141/2 acres site opposite Belfast’s George Best Airport, the new IKEA store provides 29,000 square metres (that’s over 300,000 square feet) of floor space selling nearly 10,000 product lines and featuring 55 furnished room sets. A 560 seat restaurant and a crèche complete the internal features plus an outside children’s play area.
The store employs 400 ‘co-workers’ as employees are all called. The rest of the site is taken up with a car park for 1600 cars consisting of a 900 space three storey structure plus 700 additional open air parking spaces. Naturally IKEA’s distinctive design ethos is applied throughout the site and the car park is no exception. That was one of the reasons that architects Stubbs Rich were attracted to the Berry Brisafe system for the multi-storey car park perimeter protection. It is slim, stylish, innovative and very, very effective. Unlike traditional systems Berry Brisafe has a zero footprint in the parking bay creating much more space and a light and airy environment.
