The Dartmoor Naturals range of wall tiles from leading local manufacturer British Ceramic Tile has been specified for the upgraded bedrooms at the Imperial Hotel, Exmouth, to create a luxurious, contemporary feel, which the owners felt would be more appealing to a younger clientele.

The 3 Star Imperial Hotel is one of Exmouth’s best known hotels and is situated on the sea front in the centre of this popular resort town. Owned by Shearing Holidays, the upgrade to the Imperial is part of an ongoing refurbishment programme. Shearings wanted to introduce two new room standards at the hotel, which would be more luxurious than the existing bedrooms and appeal to a younger market. The Superior and Premier rooms both centre around the same basic design concept of one colour scheme, but the Premier level offers higher spec facilities with the introduction of a four poster bed, sofa, 32’’ flat screen TV and an en suite featuring a separate shower.

The brief was to create a contemporary look which worked naturally with the style of the property. The overall room palette consists of harmonious colours to calm and soothe, while the hints of pattern and texture in the fabrics give a warm nostalgic feel.

Specialist hotel interior designer, Oliver Redfern said, “For me it was important for the bedroom colours to flow through into the bathroom giving continuity and making the design feel more refined. I chose the Dartmoor Naturals range from British Ceramic Tile as it typified the overall design concept of a contemporary feel inspired by natural undertones.”

The Dartmoor Naturals, Dolomite wall tile with its subtle White marbling gave a fantastic backdrop with additional warmth being added with the earthy slate Pulpis tiles used within the Premier rooms shower enclosures. Finally the Dartmoor glass dot mosaic tiles used as a splash back again hint at the more luxurious finish.

The hotel has been rebranded under the umbrella of Coast and Country which was launched to cater for the increasing numbers of people planning to holiday at home this year.
