James Pagett Hospital, Great Yarmouth

Client: James Pagett Hospital
Contractor: Anglia Electrical and Security
Type of works: installation of automatic door using FAAC operators.

With the dual drivers of security and DDA compliance the James Pagett Hospital appointed Anglia Electrical and Security to install two pairs of swing doors at the main public entrance of the hospital, automated with FAAC's 950BM operator.

Karl Shipp of Anglia Electrical and Security comments: 'As the doors are in constant use, the operator has to be tough and reliable. FAAC's 950BM was the obvious choice, being designed for continuous duty under exactly these circumstances.' The two sets of entrance doors are situated one after the other, and are fully equipped with FAAC health and safety kits, including finger guards.

The operator incorporates an integrated microprocessor unit with a range of operating logics, including adjustable opening and closing speeds, pause times, opening angles, and drive force. An anti-crushing safety device, active for both opening and closing, immediately reverses the door in the event of meeting an obstacle. The device memorises the point of impact and approaches it as slow speed on the next operation, only returning to standard operating speed after verifying that the obstacle has been removed.

FAAC's 950BM electro-mechanical swing operator is designed for maximum versatility and can be installed on the door or lintel, in either pull- or push-arm configuration. At James Pagett Hospital, the 905BM operators have been installed with sliding pull-arms. They are interfaced with the hospital's access management systems. During the day, the doors are triggered by PIR detectors. At night, the doors are closed and access is via an intercom.

Part III of the DDA gives disable people important rights of access to everyday services that others take for granted, and requires service providers to make permanent alterations to their premises where physical features make access to their services impossible, or unreasonably difficult, for disabled people. This includes fitting automated doors where necessary. FAAC, a world leader in gate and door automation, has operators within its range suitable for all situations.
