Kingspan Develops Super Heavy Floor System

Kingspan Access Floors Ltd has developed a Super Heavy floor system in response to greater floor loadings being required in data centres.

Kingspan Managing Director Terry Newman said: “Data centre floors are now having to carry greater loads as more cooling equipment is added to computer and server cabinets to deal with the increased heat they are generating. The Kingspan Super Heavy floor system with its new pedestal and stringer design can accommodate these greater loads.”

As the UK’s leading supplier of raised floors to the data centre sector, Kingspan has been consistently supplying volumes of approx 100,000m2 each year, meeting needs from 2,500m2 of flooring through to 40,000m2 and beyond.

All the company’s products and services are backed up by Kingspan’s market-leading Total System Warranty, which guarantees performance for an unprecedented 25 years.

“Quality and warranties are vital if you bear in mind that one room in a data centre can be dealing with £100 million of transactions every single day – imagine what would happen if the floor collapsed or if static electricity built up from the floor and began to disrupt the computers,” said Mr Newman.

Following a £750,000 investment at its Hull manufacturing site, Kingspan can now offer short lead times on bonded raised floor finishes such as vinyl or high pressure laminates, which are often required in data centres.
