Over 4500m2 of Topdek from Kingspan have been installed on the roof of a new Morrisons store in Ordsall, Manchester, forming a key part of a multi-million pound regeneration program in the area.
The Morrisons store sits at the heart of LPC Livings £50 million Radclyffe Park development, including a further 114 new homes, 12 retail units and a 156-bed Travel Lodge. The development will provide new shopping and living options to the local community along with employees at the nearby Media City development, home to the BBC and ITV in Salford.
Kingspans KS1000 TD Topdek is designed to simplify roof construction by combining a trapezoidal steel structural deck with high performance PIR insulation and a single-ply PVC membrane, in a single component. The systems unique self-coring, one-step fix fastener solution, further increases the speed and ease of installation on both new build and renovation projects.
Architects Falconer Chester Hall specified Kingspans Topdek in two tones, Mid-Grey and Light-Grey, creating a simple but eye-catching striped pattern across the stores roof. A further 380m2 of Kingspans K1000 MM Mini-Micro Architectural wall panels were installed around the top edge of the buildings façade, alternating between Kingspan XL Forte Goosewing Grey and Grey White to mirror the striped pattern of the roof.
Scott Neal, Marketing Manager at LPC Living, said The aesthetics of the roof were incredibly important on this scheme given that an apartment block and hotel effectively look directly on to the supermarket roof. The use of Kingspan Topdek on the roof and facades has provided a simple, clean finish which visually helps bring together the various elements of the development.
Gareth Russell, construction director at main contractors Russells Construction further commented: Having worked closely with the local community as part of this project, we fully understand how important this new store and overall development are to them and we were extremely pleased with how smoothly construction was completed on the store.
On such a busy development, being able to install products rapidly and efficiently was an essential part of this success. Topdek from Kingspan was a good example of this, allowing us to fit the structural roof deck, insulation and waterproofing in a single-fix. This not only saved time and labour on the roof, but also meant the building was quickly weather tight, allowing work to start on the internal fixtures and fittings.
Topdek can be installed on flat roofs, pitched roofs above 1:80 (0.72 degrees) and curved roofs with radii over 45 meters and is also insurer approved by the Loss Prevention Certification Board (LPCB), providing certainty of both performance and insurability. The factory pre-engineered design of the product ensures insulation continuity across the roof and enables Topdek to achieve thermal performance as low as 0.15 W/m2K.
The Radclyffe Park development forms the latest phase of LPC Livings wider £150 million re-development of Ordsall, including the construction of over 400 affordable homes and Primrose Hill Primary School.
