Leading work wear supplier gets ‘kitted out’ with new warehouse operation from Briggs

One of the UK’s fastest growing corporate clothing suppliers has turned to Briggs Equipment for an exclusive warehousing solution at its new facility in Birmingham to help support the company’s recent growth.

Trojan UK has moved to new premises on Kings Norton Business Park where it has taken delivery of two new Yale M010 high level order pickers and two Genie scissor lift machines.

The firm, which handles up to 40 orders of corporate, practical and technical garments per hour, needed to completely change its warehousing operations - when it secured a number of major new contracts - and worked with materials handling and service provider, Briggs Equipment, to increase its efficiencies.

Peter McLoughlin, operations manager at Trojan UK, explained: “Our old facility was like a labyrinth and it was taking us longer to pick and dispatch our stock.

“We needed a new facility where we could be more self-contained and with the help of Briggs we now have a completely bespoke warehouse that will ensure we get goods in and out quickly.”

Briggs supplied new machines with high engineering specifications and advised on the best racking to maximise efficiencies and keep operating costs low. Guide rollers have been installed on the side of the trucks’ wheels to guide the machines forward and backwards and magnets have been put into the floors to stop the trucks moving past the end of the aisle.

Dan Carley, sales executive for Briggs Equipment, commented: “Since our partnership with Yale 12 months ago, we have considerably strengthened our range of warehousing systems and products. Our specialist warehouse simulation software has enabled us to modify the equipment to fit specifically with Trojan’s operation.

“One of our main challenges was specifying the correct racking for a sloping ceiling, however, the warehouse simulator showed that we could use three different heights of racking which fit perfectly inside the warehouse and offer us optimum use of available space.”

Maintaining and servicing Trojan’s equipment is Briggs’ specialist and multi-skilled engineer who ensures that the machines are kept running smoothly. Briggs is also providing driver training to ensure safe and efficient use of the high level order picker machines.

Peter concluded: “Briggs has completely reinvented how we operate and has future-proofed our warehouse to support our five year expansion plan whereby we can expand our racking as our business continues to grow.”
