Nottingham city centre was the scene for a significant refurbishment.

To provide new footways and kerbing for a major city centre refurbishment.
The materials had to provide a cost effective and practical solution and the supplier had to be able to work efficiently, and without delay, with the constraints of busy, tight city centre working conditions.

Solution
Aggregate Industries provided a twopronged product solution: 10,500 m2 of Ultrapave specifier paving and 5,000 Lin M of Granite kerb were supplied. Ultrapave is able to provide the aesthetic look of granite, but at a fraction of the cost, and is reinforced with either steel or polypropelene fibres to help prevent cracks occurring that can lead to slip/trip claims. Ultrapave is complemented by the use of a Granite kerb.

A number of Key Performance Indicators were developed and used to measure supply agreement performance in areas such as delivery and product quality. Aggregate Industries was flexible enough to initiate changes once the work had started, for example packaging on the Granite Kerb was adapted to allow for easier mechanical handling of the products. A Streetscape Design Manual was also developed by Nottingham City Council alongside Aggregate Industries centring around these contracts, and becoming the blueprint for other local authority work.

Aggregate Industries also recently completed the redevelopment of Old Market Square in Nottingham, using natural stone.

Ultrapave is a British Standard flag paving reinforced with steel or fibres to prevent either cracks occurring or, importantly, any hairline crack extending into a break that may cause a trip hazard*. Aesthetically Ultrapave has the look of natural granite at a fraction of the price.
Ultrapave is suitable for all pedestrian areas, and areas with vehicular overrun, subject to the correct design procedures being followed**.
Granite kerb is particularly durable, and is designed to withstand occasional vehicle impact. Available with a full range of accessories, the product is also highly aesthetic, with a range of colours and finishes.
