Mansfield Swimming Pool

9 Aug 2009

Client: Mansfield District Council
Architect: Steve Melhuish, Mansfield District Council
Contractor: GF Tomlinson
Roofing contractor: Ashgate Roofing
Value: £4.5 million
Type of works: refurbishment of a swimming centre using over 2,000m2 of Rhepanol fk membranes and a full metal-lined bonded vapour barrier.

The 2010 opening of the new Rebecca Adlington Swimming Centre facilities will see the pool hall, complete with landmark barrel rooflight, restored to its former glory, with six swimming lanes replacing four, new state-of-the-art changing facilities and an extended fitness suite. SIG Design &Technology worked with the clients to deliver a bespoke roofing solution.

The roofing solution featured Rhepanol fk, to meet the council’s stringent environmental criteria, complemented with a vapour barrier, cut-to-falls tapered insulation developed by SIG as a one-piece design, 200 linear metres of maintenance walkways and a full man-safe cable system.

Mansfield District Council architect, Steve Melhuish, said: “D & T’s guarantee overcomes the design risk associated with the compatibility and interface between different components and elements of the roof build-up.”
