Marley Eternit launches latest edition of Pure Roofing manual

Roofing manufacturers still view quality and usefulness of product information in hard copy format as important factors when sourcing materials, according to the latest research findings from Marley Eternit.

Despite the growing use of online media, 71% of respondents said they refer to trade reference books when sourcing products, while many regard this as the most important information channel, second only to manufacturers’ websites.

However, the study has also revealed how many in the industry could still be using old, out-of-date information and as such specifying the wrong products.

The survey, which questioned architects, housebuilders, designers and specifiers, highlighted the reliance and importance of comprehensive technical manuals for roofing design and specification.

These findings have formed the backbone of the latest edition of Marley Eternit’s Pure Roofing – one of the most comprehensive and modern product and technical manuals available to the industry. As well as in-depth product details, the 190 page informative technical manual contains the latest information on legislation, design considerations and sustainability.

Sarah Hanlon, marketing manager at Marley Eternit, said: “Despite the availability of information on the internet, our study shows that the industry still values trade manuals, but worryingly, many are still using out-of-date product guides when sourcing and specifying.

“Architects and specifiers are used to referring to comprehensive reference books and materials and have remained loyal to these trusted resources despite the growing appeal of digital and online media.

“But using old guides is not recommended, especially with the advent of new materials, specification criteria and legislation. The latest version of Pure Roofing covers all aspects in terms of products available, specifying, design guidance and making sure the reader is up-to-date with the current legislation. It has all the information they would need for pitched roofs.”

Pure Roofing has clear and concise information on the whole range of Marley Eternit roofing products, as well as Profile Sheeting and Cedral Weatherboard which complements the company’s roofing ranges. The manual focuses on the design, detailing and specification of tiles and slates for pitched roofs and also helps to guide specifiers through the ever increasing environmental guidelines, with advice on best practice, measuring success and assessing the sustainability of buildings. It also has information about the innovative EcoLogic roof tile, which helps to clean the environment by removing NOx emissions from the air and consists of a high level of recycled material.

A separate ‘design detailing’ section includes information covering all standard constructions for the eaves, verge, ridge, valley and hip, together with vertical tiling and side abutments.

To assist specifiers with their design plans, the manual also includes a CD Rom with over 1,700 CAD details.
