Marley eternit slate and cladding products specficied for stunning coastal project

Marley’s Rivendale fibre cement slate and Cedral Weatherboard have both been specified by Charles Church West Wales for the construction of the Machynys Bay development - a desirable range of beautiful homes in a prime Welsh coastal location.

As part of Llanelli’s Waterfront regeneration, these distinctively designed three, four and five bedroom homes are situated on the Millennium Coastal Path in Carmarthenshire, boasting breath-taking views across Carmarthen Bay and the Gower Peninsula.

Adrian Jones, Senior Buyer at Charles Church West Wales comments: “Marley’s fibre cement slate and Cedral Weatherboard were specifically specified for this New England style housing project to create a desired aesthetic. We used Cedral Weatherboard as a low maintenance solution in various colours to complement the render colours and dark Rivendale fibre cement slates on the roofs.

“As well as allowing us to construct traditional New England style homes with a timeless nature, Marley’s strong environmental credentials contributed to the development’s achievement of BREEAM EcoHomes ‘Very Good’ standard.”

Sarah Harding, marketing manager for Marley, added: “We have a long history of working with Charles Church West Wales and were delighted to deliver a sustainable roofing and facade solution to meet this challenging brief. Having provided the housebuilder with fibre cement slate samples and Cedral Weatherboard from our comprehensive palette of more than 20 weatherboard shades, a decision was quickly made to specify both for this exciting new-build project.

“Our fibre cement slate and facade materials have the ability to achieve an A+ rating in the BRE Green Guide to Specification, which is appealing for ‘green’ projects such as this one at Machynys Bay.

“Furthermore, Marley’s fibre cement slates can also achieve up to six environmental credits with our BES 6001 Responsible Sourcing rating of 'Very Good' and standing as an industry first, last year Marley also became the only roofing manufacturer in the UK to achieve independent carbon footprint certification for its fibre cement products, awarded by the Carbon Trust.”

In addition EPD’s (Environmental Product Declarations) are available for Marley’s Cedral Weatherboard range.

Products in focus
Cedral Weatherboard is both easy to install and provides a strong resistance to rot which can be extremely detrimental to houses built in coastal locations. It can be supplied in a natural finish for site painting, or in a range of 23 factory-applied solid colours and four woodstain finishes, meaning there is an aesthetic option to suit a wide range of requirements.

Meanwhile, Rivendale fibre cement slate is available in three natural colours, featuring a riven surface and dressed edge, combining the benefit of modern slate technology with the look of natural slate. This popular, cost-effective product is pre-holed which makes it efficient to work with and it also boasts a wide range of bespoke fittings and accessories.

Adrian concludes: “Having successfully used Marley products in the past, I can safely say we will use them again in the future. We have found fibre cement slate to be an innovative, alternative solution to natural slate and Cedral Weatherboard provides a wonderful alternative to traditional wood weatherboard for this coastal location. Overall, the service we received has been of the very highest quality and all involved are very happy with the finished site.”

Marley is continually improving and developing its services, recently launching a new range of online fibre cement and Cedral Weatherboard BIM objects to help specifiers and contractors benefit from the cost and time saving credentials of this collaborative technology when using these products.
