Coating and paint removal – the reasons for and practicalities including protection and containment.
Biological growths – identification, effects of and the ethics of removal.
Participants are encouraged to bring along photos and details of any specific masonry cleaning problems they might have, or had in the past.
Aimed at professionals and craftspeople.

Classroom based (Duration – 1 hr 30 mins)
The Masonry Cleaning presentation will be in two parts;
Part 1: The first part is to provide a detailed summary of the principal cleaning and paint removal techniques available for interior and exterior work. Particular reference is made to British Standard 8221(2012) and other published reference sources.
Part 2: This part covers case studies and examples. The substrates described include natural stone, brick, faience, stucco, and concrete of public, domestic, commercial, ecclesiastical buildings and monuments.

Practical (Duration – 1 hr 15 mins)
A demonstration and introduction to a variety of cleaning and coating removal techniques, including an opportunity for individuals to try methods if requested.
