Metal Technology helps the fight against crime in Scotland

Leading architectural aluminium systems manufacturer Metal Technology, working with fabricator CMS Enviro Systems Ltd, has supplied Curtain Walling and Louvres on the new Scottish Crime Campus (SCC) at Gartcosh, Glasgow.

The Scottish Government’s investment in tackling serious organised crime will bring together key staff from the SCDEA, SPSA Forensic Service (Glasgow), COPFS, SOCA and HMRC, helping them work together more effectively in purpose-built facilities with state-of-the-art technology.

The £82m campus will provide accommodation for over 1100 people in a gross floor area of around 21,00 sqm. The principal building is a four storey, four block structure forming arterial walkways converging on a central atrium and references genetic structures and imagery from its immediate surroundings.

Metal Technology curtain walling profiles give limitless flexibility to architects, having a wide range of structural mullions, transoms and feature caps that can meet the character and performance requirements of any building.

The scheme at SCC demanded that Metal Technology and CMS design a bespoke louvre blade to allow the architectural team to achieve the desired aesthetic of the louvres. This new blade, fulfilling the differing demands of weathering and ventilation, was approved, extruded and supplied to site in line with the tight timescales on the project. The building will be ready for occupation late next year and fully operational in 2014.
