Metal Technology issues guides to CE Marking

Architectural aluminium systems manufacturer Metal Technology has issued comprehensive guidance for its customers on CE marking.

Available for download from the company’s website, the guide is intended for manufacturers who make curtain walling, external windows and doors but excludes fire and smoke control windows and doors. The manufacturer is the company that brings together the frame and the glazing, i.e. a company that buys frames from one source and IGUs from another is deemed to be the manufacturer under the CPR and is therefore legally responsible for CE Marking.

Metal Technology’s guidance notes cover more than the legal requirements. The 12 page document covers definitions, testing and controls and provides sample labels and declarations of performance that customers can apply to their own products.

Metal Technology Technical Manager Philip Osborne commented:
Manufacturers now have to provide documentary evidence that their product meets the required standard, demonstrating to specifiers, contractors, building inspectors and Trading Standards that the product complies with the essential requirements as stated within BS EN 14351-1 for windows / doors and BS EN 13080 for curtain walling. We believe that our guidance is accurate and robust, helping our customers to get their CE marking right first time.
